This is an original US 5th Infantry patch.
Unit History
The US Army 5th Infantry Division was first activated in 1917 during World War I. Known as the Red Diamond Division or Red Devils, the unit earned distinction across major twentieth-century conflicts including the Normandy breakout in World War II and combat operations in Vietnam before its inactivation in 1992.
Insignia Origins & Construction
First approved in October 1918, this shoulder sleeve insignia features a solid red diamond stitched with high-density thread. The red colour pays homage to Field Artillery, while the diamond shape was chosen for its structural strength and connection to early military mottos. It features a clean embroidered border for sewing directly onto uniforms or field jackets.
