The SADF Pattern 83 Light Battle Jacket is a genuine military load-bearing vest.

SADF Military Heritage

This genuine surplus vest was made in South Africa for the South African Defence Force (SADF) during the Border War of the 1980s. Designed for high-mobility bush operations, its distinctive Nutria Brown shade was engineered to blend into the dry veld. It offers collectors and historians a rare, combat-proven piece of late Cold War tactical equipment.

Massive Storage Layout

The vest features four double magazine pouches with silent internal dividers to hold up to eight R4, STANAG, or AK mags. Two large side pockets are sized for 2-litre water canteens, while smaller chest pouches hold tools or compasses. The back has a built-in two-compartment daypack and butt pack, letting you carry a complete 48-hour kit without a heavy rucksack.

Built for Tough Trails

Made of waterproof 1000D Cordura nylon on a breathable black mesh base, this vest is built to survive dense scrub where civilian packs fail. Padded shoulders and adjustable webbing side straps distribute weight evenly across your torso. As Grade 2 surplus, these show weathered signs of field use, including minor stains or repairs, but remain fully functional.
