This original East German NVA field telephone is a genuine piece of Cold War military communication gear.
Military History and Design
Issued to the Nationale Volksarmee during the Cold War, the Feldfernsprecher 63 was manufactured in East Germany by VEB Funkwerk Kölleda. Designed as a local battery field set, it allowed reliable point-to-point communication across tactical unit posts. Its original lid features an installed plate displaying the East German phonetic alphabet for precise radio grid transmissions.
Durable Field Construction
Built inside a thick Bakelite shell, this field telephone measures 12cm x 27cm x 13cm and weighs roughly 3.7kg. When closed, the protective lid creates a dust and splash-resistant seal around the deck. It features heavy-duty brass hinges, an adjustable webbed shoulder strap, and a fold-away hand crank for easy field transport.
Technical Specifications and Power
Equipped with a transistorised microphone amplifier and dynamic handset capsule, the set does not come with a battery and may need to be adapted for use with modern batteries.
