Original US Army 88th Infantry Division shoulder sleeve patch.
Historical Origins
This original US Army shoulder insignia belonged to the 88th Infantry Division, famously known as the 'Blue Devils'. Formed from draftees in the Organized Reserve, the unit saw intense combat throughout the Italian Campaign in World War Two, including the breakthrough at the Gustav Line.
Insignia Construction
The patch features a distinctive blue quatrefoil cloverleaf, created by two overlapping figure eights. It is built with dense blue thread embroidery on a fabric base, measuring 5.5cm by 5.5cm. The reverse shows traditional white bobbin backing characteristic of period manufacture.
