Preserving the Critical Respirator Seal

The British military introduced the General Service Respirator (GSR) to replace the S10 system. When stored in a packed haversack, flexible rubber facepieces can flatten or fold under load. This rigid internal form acts as an engineered insert that preserves the natural facial curve, preventing permanent creases along the seal lines that could ruin an airtight chemical fit.

Type 1 and Type 2 Field Variants

Manufactured from tough moulded black polymer, these inserts exist in two issue patterns. Type 1 uses a solid face cradle backed by a dense reinforcement waffle grid and metal poppers. Type 2 features skeletonised weight-saving cut-outs with moulded polymer studs. Both versions click directly into the issue MTP field pack using four secure anchor points.

Collector Display and Pack Organisation

For militaria collectors, this insert completes a correct GSR haversack loadout and supports surplus masks upright without distortion. Bush crafters and outdoor hikers also repurpose the stiff internal frame as a protective divider inside utility satchels.
