KEY FEATURES
This original Belgian Army M88 field jacket is genuine military surplus built for heavy-duty wear.
Cold War Military Heritage
Issued to NATO forces during the late Cold War, the Belgian Army M88 field jacket was introduced in 1988 as a streamlined replacement for the M64. It served as the primary combat layer for the infantry until 1999. Unlike modern camo, this clean olive green shell offers a classic style that blends naturally into both woodland and everyday urban environments.
Built for Rugged Durability
This jacket is made from thick, hard-wearing 100% cotton canvas that resists wind and abrasions. To block out drafts, it features a heavy-duty metal zip secured by a robust, button-fastened wind flap. The underarm ventilation holes prevent overheating during strenuous tasks, making it a reliable choice for demanding bushcraft and outdoor work.
Practical Utility and Storage
The jacket boasts four front pockets, including angled chest pockets designed for quick access to gear while wearing a harness. On the lower back, a large double-entry poacher pocket provides storage for larger, soft items like maps or dry tinder. For sudden weather changes, a lightweight cotton hood folds away neatly between the outer shell and lining.
Adjustable Fit and Comfort
An internal drawstring waist and elasticated bottom hem allow you to trap body heat and customize the fit. Padded, reinforced elbows offer extra protection when crawling or kneeling on rough ground. The left shoulder features a sewn-on Belgian flag patch, providing a touch of vintage military style to this durable piece of surplus.
Prepare for your next bushcraft trip with this robust Belgian military classic.
This item was used by the Belgian Army during the Late Cold War (1961–1991) and is in Grade 1 condition. It is in very good condition with plenty of life left. We recommend giving it a wash before wearing.

- Markings & Personalisation: May feature soldier names, unit numbers, service markings, or light depot stamps written on tags or fabric.
- Repairs: May include neat, professional military-standard stitches or minor reinforcement patches that do not compromise gear integrity.
- Storage & Cleanliness: Gear is serviceable straight out of the box, though a standard initial wash or airing is recommended to clear typical military surplus storage scent and minor handling dust.
“Took 3 washes to get rid of the stale smell, it's a cracking jacket now comfortable with good deep pockets, bargain well made jacket 👌”
“Excellent quality, exceeded my expectations. Will definitely buy from here again”
“Classic jacket. Excellent quality. Zip needs a wee bit of stiching at the bottom. Size was spot on. Have read reviews with comments on arm length. Combat jackets do not have long arms as far as I am aware (will stand corrected if wrong). If you need longer arm length then go sizes up but then jacket might be be baggy. Had a bit of storage musty smell. Couple of washes; 1st with mild detergent and dettol laundry sanitiser and line dried then next day 2nd wash with detergent and some white vinegar. Out on line and let it dry. Amazing what fresh air does. Excellent service again from Jay and Steve. Summary: brilliant jacket and great service from Forces Uniform. Recommended 🙂”
“Very high quality jacket washed and dried, washed again with Nikwax cotton proof and tested in the UK wet spring never let a drop in. The value for money is unbelievable I like it so much that I would happily buy another but it would be a waste of money as at 60 years old I will never wear this one out.”
“Excellent value for money. 👍”
