WW2 British Army Laundry Bag

This is an original WW2 British laundry bag in unissued Supergrade condition.

Wartime Barracks Issue

British soldiers during the Second World War received these sacks to keep soiled kit organised in barracks. Troops quickly nicknamed them dhobi bags, adopting the traditional Hindi word for laundry. Issued under War Department contracts throughout the 1940s, many examples still retain visible maker stamps and contract dates from wartime production.

Hard-Wearing Cotton Drill

Each sack is made from tightly woven cotton drill in classic khaki brown. Unlike modern synthetic fabrics, this natural material lets damp garments breathe while resisting abrasion and daily wear. Measuring roughly 59cm by 38cm, the flat pouch provides generous capacity without adding bulk, while reinforced side seams prevent splitting under load.

Field Utility and Camp Organisation

A thick woven cotton tape drawstring runs through the upper channel to cinch the bag closed. Reenactors use it to complete a period-correct living history tent line. Bushcrafters and campers rely on it as a durable ditty bag to store dry kindling, rations, or spare wool socks inside a rucksack without plastic rustle.
