KEY FEATURES
Please Note: Due to the way they were stored, some of these helmets are slightly misshapen.
This original East German Airforce ground crew helmet is genuine Cold War military surplus issue.
Cold War Aviation Origin
Issued to NVA Luftstreitkräfte ground technicians, this helmet shielded personnel working near jet engines on active airfields. The reinforced composite shell provides lightweight impact defence without the heavy bulk of traditional steel, keeping ground crews mobile and protected around aircraft during high-intensity flight line operations.
Acoustic & Interior Design
Engineered specifically for high-noise airfield environments, it features integrated ear cups to deaden harsh jet blast noise. The interior relies on a foam-lined core and a leather suspension harness with a padded face roll, cushioning the head and securing a comfortable fit during long maintenance shifts.
Construct & Display Utility
Finished with a dark brown leather rim border, heavy yellow contrast stitching, and a central identification stripe, this helmet offers an authentic Cold War aesthetic. A removable leather chinstrap with a steel buckle retains the fit, making it an excellent addition for militaria displays, historical reenactments, or unique headwear collections.

Distressed gear is heavily worn surplus packed with genuine field character. While cosmetic wear is substantial, we never sell unusable junk—every item remains fit for its core, primary purpose and is ideal for rugged beat-around use, projects, or workwear.
- Functionality: The main structure and essential closures remain usable, though secondary elements (like a side pocket zip, drawcord toggle, or single snap) may be stiff, stuck, or broken.
- Fabric & Wear: Expect noticeable softening, severe fading, fraying hems, surface staining, or small puncture holes/snags that do not compromise the main build.
- Hardware & Metalwork: Metal snaps, buckles, and eyelets may show paint chipping, heavy patina, surface rust, or tarnishing, but main fastening points stay secure.
- Repairs & Modifications: Often features in-service repairs, patches, visible hand-stitching, missing non-critical buttons, or bold soldier names and stencil markings.
- Storage & Scent: Authentic surplus that has seen real deployment and depot storage—a solid wash and air-out is recommended before everyday wear.
