Historical Background and Design
First established in June 1961, the Army Recruiter Identification Badge was awarded to active personnel who met demanding enlistment quotas. The design features a bald eagle representing federal authority and a diagonal flaming torch to represent opportunity and advancement. These original 1970s badges showcase a striking circular band inscribed with "U.S. ARMY RECRUITER".
Technical Build and Attachment
Made of robust polished silver-toned iron, the insignia measures exactly 2-1/8 inches (5.4 cm) in height and width. The reverse is finished with a protective black-painted coating to prevent corrosion. Unlike standard pin-backs that sag, it uses three pin posts with brass clutch backs to keep the badge completely flat and secure on heavy wool tunics or canvas gear.
Modern Utility and Display
This original US surplus item is graded in Supergrade like-new condition, showing minimal storage wear. For military historians and collectors, it provides a period-correct addition to a late Cold War or Vietnam-era display.
