This genuine Austrian Army winter cap is a classic cold-weather field hat.
Cold War Alpine Design
Originally introduced in 1975 under the Austrian KAZ 75 uniform system, this Heeres-Wintermütze was engineered for cold-weather alpine operations. The tough outer shell is made of a windproof 65% polyester and 35% cotton blend twill. It features a water and dirt-repellent finish, shielding soldiers from wet snow, and has the iconic embroidered red-white-red national cockade on the front.
Dual-Zone Thermal Control
The hat manages extreme cold through a dual-zone design. Inside the crown, a quilted insulated lining traps dry air close to your scalp. The fold-down flaps are lined with a deep, ultra-soft synthetic plush fleece. These flaps snap securely under your chin for full cheek coverage or clip over the top of the cap when you are working hard and need to cool down.
Integrated Tactical Features
Thoughtful tactical features include ventilation grommets on the crown to prevent moisture build-up. A stiffened front visor keeps snow and rain out of your eyes. Cleverly, the ear flaps have integrated hearing ports covered by small button flaps. This allows you to listen to your environment or hear commands clearly without exposing your ears to freezing air.

This item was used by the Austrian Army during the Late Cold War (1961–1991) and is in Grade 1 condition. It is in very good condition with plenty of life left. We recommend giving it a wash before wearing.
