This Czech Field Shovel is a solid fixed-blade trenching tool built for heavy outdoor work.
Cold War Military Design
Based on the classic Czechoslovak People's Army (ČSLA) CS 412 pattern, this entrenching spade was engineered for reliability in tough terrain. The stamped steel blade features an olive drab finish and official CS 412 markings, reflecting its Cold War military origin.
Heavy Steel Spade Blade
The blade measures 7 inches wide by 8 inches long with a 1.8mm thick steel plate that resists bending. It includes a curved top shoulder for applying foot pressure in hard dirt, plus a bevelled side edge that doubles as a field axe for clearing roots.
Solid Hardwood Handle
At 24 inches in overall length, the spade uses a durable wooden shaft attached with a riveted cross-mounting collar. The end features a rounded bulb knob that prevents slipping during extended digging, making it ideal for bushcraft and camp setup.
Equip your camp or vehicle kit with this dependable Cold War style field spade today.
This item was used by the Czech Army during the Late Cold War (1961–1991) and is in Grade 1 condition. It is in very good condition with plenty of life left. We recommend giving it a wash before wearing.
Grade 1 represents solid, fully functional military surplus that has been deployed or issued but remains in great usable condition with plenty of life left.
- Functionality: 100% field-ready. All main zippers, press studs, drawstrings, and buckles work as intended with no critical faults.
- Fabric & Wear: Structurally sound with light cosmetic wear, minor abrasion, or subtle fading from normal military use and laundering.
- Markings & Personalisation: May feature soldier names, unit numbers, service markings, or light depot stamps written on tags or fabric.
- Repairs: May include neat, professional military-standard stitches or minor reinforcement patches that do not compromise gear integrity.
- Storage & Cleanliness: Gear is serviceable straight out of the box, though a standard initial wash or airing is recommended to clear typical military surplus storage scent and minor handling dust.
